Home Care V3 EN
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that appropriate home care services can prevent the need for acute care or long-term care services by helping clients meet their health care and support needs while remaining in their home and community. Research has shown home care services to be cost-effective and associated with a higher-quality of life for clients.
HSO’s Home Care Services standards apply to organizations offering clinical and non-clinical services to support clients, families, and caregivers in the community. Clinical services may include home nursing care, rehabilitation, and therapies (e.g. physiotherapy, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietetics, and social work). Non-clinical services, referred to as home support services, may include meal preparation or delivery, housekeeping, assistance with bathing or dressing, and assistance with ambulation. These standards help organizations deliver services in a way that helps clients maintain their independence and maximise their quality of life.
HSO’s Home Care Services standards contain the following sections:
- Investing in Home Care Services
- Having the Right People
- Delivering Home Care Services
- Maintaining Client Information
- Monitoring the Safety and Quality of Home Care Services
