Early psychosis intervention (EPI) is a critical component of appropriate MHSUH service delivery as it primarily affects young people and can drastically impact the quality of life and intensity of care required across the lifespan, with significant implications for the broader health system, as well as people with psychosis and their families. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e\n\u003ca name=\"_Toc80964138\"\u003e\u003c\/a\u003eScope\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eA National Workshop Agreement (NWA) was explicitly undertaken for EPI to understand the unique areas of consideration for any future standards-based deliverable created to address psychosis. This project explored guidance and best practices for EPI by expanding upon the four existing provincial standards and other guidance documents as well as current research and evidence, with enhanced engagement with a variety of knowledge-holding groups across Canada, including health providers, researchers, and people with lived and living experience.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThroughout these engagements, there was agreement that EPI services in Canada should be \u003cb\u003eaccessible \u003c\/b\u003eand \u003cb\u003ehigh quality\u003c\/b\u003e. With these principles in mind, this Workshop Agreement provides recommendations for guidance that include EPI-specific considerations, organized under the following categories:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eSystem design: \u003c\/strong\u003eincluding policy and system-level considerations to support accessible, evidence-based, and consistent mental health and substance use health systems across Canada;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eProgram delivery:\u003c\/strong\u003e including considerations for providing EPI care that is timely, culturally appropriate, equitable, person-centred, team-based, and effective;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eImplementation:\u003c\/strong\u003e including considerations for moving beyond standards to actionable, measurable, and continuous-improvement focused services within a Learning Health System.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNotable themes identified by Workshop participants include: \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePrioritizing Indigenous-led research and service design;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eImproving awareness of, and timely access to, EPI programs;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eProviding holistic care aimed at clients and their designated support person(s);\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIntegrating EPI care with substance use health services;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eProviding developmentally appropriate care that is strengths-based;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDesigning care that is culturally safe, stigma-free, and anti-racist.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eIt was agreed that the best way to promote accessible and high-quality EPI services across the country is a set of national standards with commensurate funding, implementation support, monitoring, and accountability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e\u003ca name=\"_Toc80964141\"\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003eAcknowledgements\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLead partners CAMH and HSO are grateful to and acknowledge the valuable contributions of supporting partners Shkaabe Makwa and the Canadian Consortium for Early Intervention in Psychosis in developing the Early Psychosis Intervention National Workshop Agreement project and deliverables.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlongside these organizations, a team of expert knowledge holders from across Canada joined the project Working Group and provided valuable contributions.
