Semi-Residential and Residential Services V3 EN
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the proportion of people over the age of 60 is growing faster worldwide than any other age group, as a result of longer life expectancy and declining fertility rates. This trend reflects the need for safe and effective services that would support the health and wellness of the senior population.
HSO's Semi-Residential and Residential Services Standards are intended for organizations providing services in a senior day centre, retirement residence, or a long-term care home. Senior day centres provide supervised care for seniors in a supportive and safe environment during the day to allow families and caregivers the opportunity to fulfill daily responsibilities. Services may include nutrition, health care, and transportation. Retirement residences provide meals, housing and a range of other services to seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities (e.g. bathing, dressing, medication management, and transportation). Long-term care homes provide services to seniors who require higher levels of care where nursing and other services are available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.
These standards focus on client directed care where services are delivered in a way that maximizes the quality of life for clients and promotes their rights, dignity, preferences, and autonomy.
HSO's Semi-Residential and Residential Services Standards contain the following sections:
- Investing in Semi-Residential and Residential Services
- Having the Right People
- Delivering Semi-Residential and Residential Services
- Maintaining Client Information
- Monitoring the Safety and Quality of Semi-Residential and Residential Services
